Peshawar and Islamabad-based hybrid-folk music group, Khumariyaan, who landed a huge hit in ‘Ya Qurban’ from last year’s Coke Studio – for which they won a Lux Style Award as well – are coming to Karachi again.

Having played at T2F in the past and with Karachi-based music and arts company Salt Arts on a number of occasions, Khumariyaan clearly has a strong following in Karachi and with their debut album due that will feature a number of their released hits, the band is in overdrive, working to release the record.

In the meantime, speaking to Instep, Sparlay Rawail from the group spoke about playing in Karachi again as well as playing at T2F. He said, “A T2F show is all passion and heart for us, we do it purely for our listeners and to celebrate the fact that there is a space dedicated solely to the arts and the community. Rest in Power Sabeen.”

As for coming back to Karachi to play a show, noted Sparlay Rawail, “Playing in Karachi is always a special feeling that only a true metropolitan can give you, where the night is always young and days are full of possibilities. We love Karachi and Karachi loves us.”

He got that right. Karachi does love Khumariyaan and comes out for them every time. It is the city that never sleeps.

The T2F gig is scheduled to take place on December 13 and is a ticketed event but paying for good music while keeping the doors of T2F open is a win-win for Karachi. It isn’t even something to think about. It is something you should do as someone who not only adores the band but wants the legacy of the late Sabeen Mahmud to continue.
