The music video, sponsored by Pepsi, opens with a fire and the word Deewar written in Urdu and you know this is going to be something unpredictable.

Xarb may not have won Pepsi Battle of the Bands in any season but if any band deserved to win and has the mettle to go ahead, it is Xarb. They blew the judges away with the cover of The Sabri Brothers ‘Tashnagi’ and now the group with this incredible zest is back with a music video for ‘Deewar’.

The music video, sponsored by Pepsi, opens with a fire and the word Deewar written in Urdu and you know this is going to be something unpredictable.

We only see the silhouette of Qamar Parvi at first as he sings a couple of lines before the camera pans to a girl with a lot of mist around as the drummer emerges. And before you know it, the whole band is on its full gear, playing the song while the girl is running towards something and a masked man is also there. As the beautiful song goes on – which asks you to tear down walls including those that constrict your ego – the girl is surrounded by more masked people but she has a destination she can see. Halfway through the song, they hold her back but she eventually gets out of their circus and runs as fast as she can towards her destination while the masked people, one by one, take off their masks. We learn that they they are mostly women, except for the original masked man who is a man. The masked girls somehow smile and cheer for this brave girl who runs towards her destination while the man is not amused. When she reaches her destination, it is an absolute paradise. The music video is a great analogy for the society we live in, the forced misogyny and those who rebel. Written and directed by Fazal Ahmed and Abdul Basit, this is one of the stronger music videos Pepsi has sponsored and with Xarb, expect the unexpected.
