British-Pakistani actor, writer and rapper, Riz Ahmed, who recently pulled out of an event featuring Indian PM Narendra Modi is probably celebrating.

His film, Sound of Metal that won Best Film at Zurich International Film Festival has been picked up by Amazon Studios. “The film follows the story of a heavy metal drummer who begins to lose his hearing, suffering on the drums through every ringing of the ears,” noted Awards Circuit.

It also stars Olivia Cooke, Mathieu Amalric, Lauren Ridloff and Paul Raci.

This means the film will find a much larger audience than the film circuit. The film is Darius Marder’s first feature. His previous works include working on documentaries.

More good news is that Amazon plans to release it theatrically as well. Meanwhile, Riz, a rapper and writer, also starred in Netflix’s mystery series, The OA and the actor has starred in a film called The Sisters Brothers alongside A-grade actors John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix and Jake Gyllenhaal. Whether a studio picks it up or not is another story.

As for Riz Ahmed, in recent years, since starring in The Night Of (2016), the actor has featured in a number of high profile projects including Venom alongside Tom Hardy, Girls alongside Lena Dunham, Una alongside Rooney Mara, and Jason Bourne alongside Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander.
