Lux Style Awards 2019, colloquially known as the LSAs, have always lived in a constellation of controversies. This year, however, has been particularly controversial as several nominees asked to be pulled out, and the LSAs complied with that request.

The show, nonetheless, will go on and is scheduled to take place later this year with voting closing on June 30. Viewers can vote in a total of nine categories.

Partnering with Geo TV, the voting phase for the rest of the nominees – who didn’t pull out - can now go on in full-swing and fans can hit the website to vote in the categories of film, music and TV – which are open to the public with fashion being the exception. The Lux girl this year is Saba Qamar so that should satiate fans who believe she is more deserving than many others.

Certain categories are open to the public such as Best Actor and Best Actress in Film but the film jury decides on Best Film and Best Director.

With Meesha Shafi pulling out for her song, ‘Mein’ as well as multiple nominee Saif Samejo and several others following suit - to which LSAs complied - the affect will be felt. For instance, the battle for Song of the Year is between two good songs now; one released independently, namely ‘Rung De’ by Chand Tara Orchestra and the other being ‘Ya Qurbaan’ by Khumariyaan, who not only have a loyal, dedicated fan base that spans a decade but the marketing of Coke Studio behind their track. Time will tell which way the pendulum swings.
