Instep speaks to the model turned actor, who has been nominated in the category of Best Emerging Talent at the upcoming Lux Style Awards 2019.

Zubab Rana started off her career with modeling after one of her friends tagged her in a post by a modeling agency on social media. The agency was shooting for a brand and that’s how she landed her first modeling assignment.

However, it was in 2017 that Zubab got a call from a local channel, offering her a part in their upcoming drama serial.

“Almost three years ago, I made my acting debut with Naseebon Jali that starred Tipu Sharif and Ali Ansari in pivotal roles,” Zubab Rana told Instep in an exclusive interview.

Last year, she essayed the role of an antagonist, Aleena in drama serial Meray Khudaya, for which she has bagged a nomination in the Best Emerging Talent category at the upcoming edition of the Lux Style Awards 2019.

“People really appreciated me for my character, Aleena. It was hard to justify that character as it had a lot of shades,” she shared.

“I always wanted to try different things and though Aleena was a tricky and challenging character, I’m glad I went ahead with a project that highlighted a social issue - sexual abuse. It is due to this part that I have earned a nod at the Lux Style Awards,” she shared, adding that it feels great to have been nominated in the Best Emerging Talent category.

Talking about other nominees in the category, she went on to say that all nominees are amazing. “Let’s hope for the best and see what happens at the upcoming awards.”

Zubab also starred in the recently concluded horror drama serial Bandish, which was directed by Aabis Raza and written by Syed Nabeel and Shahid Nizami.

Besides Zubab, the play featured veterans Marina Khan, Sajid Hassan, Farah Shah and Hira Mani in pivotal roles and generated great reviews for its scary storytelling and intriguing performances.

Given that her acting career is still in its initial stages, Zubab’s portrayal of Hania was quite commendable.

The actress shared that she opted for the role in Bandish as it was completely different from the negative part that she played in Meray Khudaya. As for how challenging it was to pull off Hania’s character, she revealed, “I like experimenting with different characters so I didn’t find it that difficult.”

Zubab, who is pursuing an undergrad degree, also spoke about her upcoming projects. She informed that for now she is looking forward to her upcoming TV project, titled Rishtey Biktey Hain that will go on air in the coming days.

The upcoming play is directed by Syed Atif Hussain and besides Zubab, the cast includes Ali Abbas and Asad Ali among others.

When asked whether she has plans to venture into movies anytime soon, she responded, “I would love to do a movie, but I have don’t have any project in the pipeline as we speak. But if I come across a good script, you will definitely see me on the big screen soon.”

As far as the selection of roles is concerned, there is no checklist that the actor keeps in mind before signing any new project. “Honestly speaking, I like experimenting with different roles. So the only factor that I keep in mind is to go for diverse roles that I haven’t portrayed in the past,” she added.

Talking about her future plans, Zubab said on a parting note, “I’ve left my future plans on the Almighty because He knows what is better for me.”
