Multiple screenings of Pakistani short Rani in Pakistan, announced

Having announced earlier that Pakistani short, Rani that stars transgender actress Kami Sid - who plays the role of a toy vendor, and what happens when she adopts an abandoned baby – will make its Pakistan premiere at the upcoming 10th edition of Karachi Literature Festival, it seems the premiere will be followed by many others in Pakistan. Rani will be screened at the festival on March 3rd followed by a panel session with the cast, producer and director.

After KLF 2019, the film will be screened at the Dorab Patel Auditorium of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, in Lahore on March 10th, hosted by Lahore Biennale Foundation.

In addition, GrayScale revealed that screenings will also take place at T2F, Goethe Institut and educational institutions like IBA, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, The Lyceum. There will be “accessible screenings” for the students of Deaf Reach, noted GrayScale further.

Prior to its Pakistan premiere, the Pakistani short, written, co-produced and directed by Hammad Rizvi, has made quite an impression at foreign film festivals, being screened at CAAMFEST in Los Angeles, Tasveer in Seattle, Asian CineVision International Festival, New York and Chicago South Asian Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival in California and Rhode Island International Film Festival.

The film has also picked up several awards along the way, winning the award for Outstanding Writer Award at NBCUniversal Short Film Festival in LA, at Outfest LA, winning Fox Inclusion Award and winning Ursula genderbender Award, Best Short Film) at International Queer Film Festival, Hamburg.
