Aziz Jindani’s animated film, The Donkey King, that released in cinemas across Pakistan on October 13, under the banner of Geo Films, is still impressing audiences.

The film collected nearly 4 crores in its first week and broke all previous box office records made by animated films that have been produced in Pakistan. The movie that follows the story of a donkey called Mangu who becomes king by chance didn’t disappoint after the rush of the first week. In its second and third week, it collectively raked in over 10 crores and set a new benchmark.

However, it is quite interesting to note that The Donkey King has sustained the numbers despite the release of the much anticipated Aamir Khan film-Thugs of Hindostan on Thursday (November 8). It also stars veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan as well as Katrina Kaif.

Though the recent prolific Indian production took a huge number of screens and most number of shows from The Donkey King, it still managed to collect approximately 17 crores till Friday (November 9), according to Entertainment Pakistan. The site also stated that the animated film will most likely reach nearly 18 crores over the coming week.

The Donkey King, which is running successfully in cinemas, continues to garner rave reviews. The surprise hit has done well at the box office but will it continue to beat Aamir Khan’s film (that has picked up average reviews), time will tell.
