It’s not just acting schools but we also lack acting coaches in Pakistan. Therefore, most films, television or theatre plays and other acting assignments take place in the absence of one. However, Asim Raza’s upcoming film, Parey Hut Love - his next after Ho Mann Jahaan - has an acting coach named Faheem Azam onboard and we feel it’s a good sign.
Comedian-actor Faheem Azam is a multi-dimensional artist who has been associated with theatre and TV for long and has a way with words.
“Asim (Raza) is very particular about acting and rehearsals,” Faheem shared with Instep in an exclusive conversation from the set of the film that recently went on floors. “One of the two major gaps in most Pakistani films that have released in recent times is acting, apart from content. A couple of films have been very good in handling that part and that requires rehearsals before shooting for the film. Therefore, I feel great that people like Asim Raza are introducing the concept of detailed rehearsals and coaching for actors.”
The artist also shared that it is important to understand the characters and their back stories before getting into them, the way it’s done abroad. This is, he maintains, where the role of an acting coach comes into play, at least initially.
“I am very happy that this is being done in Pakistan’s film industry. Asim is very detail-oriented and this is one big example,” he added.
Parey Hut Love is a romantic comedy that stars Maya Ali and Sheheryar Munawar in lead roles while Mahira Khan, who was supposed to be the female lead earlier, will play a special role in the film. She stepped away from the project due to date issues.
Veteran actor Nadeem Baig and Ahmed Ali Butt will play prominent roles while acting coach Faheem Azam will also be seen in a small role in the film that is expected to release on Eid next year.
