Pakistan’s stars and celebrities flood social media with appreciation and support after PM Imran Khan’s inaugural address to the nation.

Imran Khan, who was sworn in as Pakistan’s 22nd Prime Minister last week, addressed the nation on Sunday night. During his inaugural speech the new PM announced his agenda of change and took a vow to cut down spending and launch sweeping reforms. He also pledged to root out corruption and take austerity measures that affect the welfare of the nation; one such measure was to turn the PM House into a university.

Moreover, he stated that his only motivation to step into politics 22 years ago, was to help set Pakistan on the path envisioned by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

While Imran Khan went on to thank those who stood by him in his political struggle, many celebrities also showed their support for the new PM and took to social media to express their feelings.

After the speech, superstar Mahira Khan shared a picture of Imran Khan on her official Instagram handle and noted, “Words one never thought you’d get to hear, feel proud to call you my Prime Minister Khan! At your service with this mission of yours.”

The Humsafar star also congratulated the PM “for joining the esteemed list of people my mother prays for (constant phoonks of dua every time you come on TV).”

Apart from Mahira Khan actor and host Hamza Ali Abbasi, who has been an avid supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was all praises for Imran Khan. “Tears of joy & gratitude to Allah...” wrote the actor on his Twitter account. “Have so much to say but in short... Allah has finally showered his mercy & blessings on Pakistan in the form of this man we know as Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” added Hamza.

Singer, songwriter and actor, Ali Zafar also took to Instagram and shared a picture of himself with IK with the caption, “In our last meeting we connected on Rumi who said ‘what you seek is seeking you’. You sought to serve and Allah has blessed you with the opportunity. I pray that He blesses us with a Pakistan where economy and empathy can thrive together as per your vision.”

Actor-host Faysal Qureshi also tweeted, “The speech was coming from the heart and people could feel it. He spoke a common man’s language. I sincerely pray that he is able to implement his agenda.
