Mawra Hocane passes LLB exam, gets world distinction in Islamic Law.

There’s more to Mawra Hocane than meets the eye. The popular actress has been around for several years but it wouldn’t be wrong to say that her big breakthrough was a Bollywood film called Sanam Teri Kasam. The film didn’t do too well but it catapulted Mawra’s career, the song ‘Kheench Meri Photo’ becoming the inadvertent mantra of her social media stardom. Seen on Instagram more than the screen, Mawra eventually signed up for the titular role in drama serial Sammi and then went ‘offline’ again. Her time was divided between showbiz and a degree in law, that she was pursuing at the University of London.

Constantly worrying about her academic grades more than anything else, Mawra was delighted when LLB exam results were announced and the actress, who will be making her film debut next week in Pakistan with Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, passed with flying colours!

In Islamic Law, Mawra has secured a total of 85 per cent, which is the highest in Pakistan and most probably highest in the world, for which she will get a distinction at her convocation. She has also passed with flying colours in Jurisprudence, Public International Law and Land Law. The University of London Bachelors degree (available in Islamabad) in General Law will allow her to practice in Pakistan’s Lower Courts. She’ll get her license in five days, she confirmed.

While she loves being on screen, Mawra also plans to take up a career in law and she intends to pursue Family Law, which is an extension of Islamic Law, she elaborated.

“Divorce, for example, is too complicated for women to pursue in court in Pakistan,” she said. “The law favours a man. Similar applies to rape or khula scenarios. Our courts demand evidence for maltreatment, which is always very hard to prove. In all manner our laws favour a man. Women are not given alimony and child support and when women ask for a divorce they automatically give up their rights to all kinds of support. This has to be addressed.”

“Yes, I plan to practice and I will announce it soon,” she added.

Meanwhile, she is excited about her upcoming film, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 as well as period drama Aangan, in which she is cast opposite Ahsan Khan and Ahad Raza Mir. Aangan is rumoured to release in September, when we’ll catch up with the pretty actress to follow up on her law practice and acting plans.
