Azaadi trailer fails to leave an impact

After multiple delays, the makers of Azaadi finally managed to release its trailer on Tuesday. And the two-minute trailer isn’t half bad. With hits like Choorian, Yeh Dil Aapka Huwa and Love Mein Ghum to Moammar Rana’s credit, Azaadi marks his comeback in the new wave of Pakistani cinema and it looks like he’ll be appealing to peoples’ national spirit.

Directed by Imran Malik, the film’s extended trailer shows the fight for freedom and is a love story set against the backdrop of freedom struggle in Jammu and Kashmir. In the trailer, Azaad (essayed by Moammar Rana and no, the word play is not lost on us) is seen as a freedom fighter who chooses Kashmir over love, career, and family, whereas Zara (Sonya Hussyn) is a British journalist of Pakistani roots, and is madly in love with Azaad. Besides Rana and Hussyn, veteran actor Nadeem Baig will be essaying Moammar’s father in the film.

Hussyn looks beautiful in the trailer and seems to be playing her part well. Moammar Rana, while on one hand impresses with his body language, on the other hand is a bit too coercive in his dialogue delivery. He seems to be screaming from back in the eighties.

The film is packed with a lot of action with impressive visual effects and like all patriotic films, Azaadi - showcasing the struggle of freedom fighting in Kashmir – has been made with nationalism as its nucleus. With actors like Moammar Rana, Nadeem Baig and Sonya Hussyn on the cast and a theme that people love, the film might attract the masses, but only time will tell how it fares at the box-office.

-Azaadi is set to release on Eid ul Fitr 2018.
