After multiple delays in its release, Sanam Saeed and Rehan Sheikh-starrer Azad is all set to hit cinemas next month. Originally scheduled to release in late 2016, the upcoming film will now come out on February 9 while it stars an ensemble cast including Sabreen Hisbani, Nimra Bucha, Angeline Malik, Imran Abbas, Zahid Ahmed and Salman Shahid.
The announcement comes out with a music video, ‘Kuch Mat Kaho’ with Rehan Sheikh’s monologue taking us down memory lane and vocals by Abbas Ali Khan while it also features Sabreen Hisbani. It is a melancholic song about two people in love who are no longer together.
According to reports, Azad follows the story of a radio jockey who calls himself ‘azad’ but gradually learns that he is en-caged in his own past. “It is a light-hearted exploration of an individual’s life,” Rehan Sheikh revealed in a recent interview. “It’s been a passionate project and a labour of love so we expect that it will find its audience, who will appreciate it too. It’s not a masala film as such but an off-beat comedy-drama with elements of satire.”
The film is a comedic commentary on media and narrates the story of this Pakistan-based radio jockey who tries to balance life and career in an almost dystopian environment.
