5 things we loved about the Magnum Party ’17

The Magnum Party has been a rather exciting event on the fashion calendar since 2012.

There was a lot to love about the night and here’s why it was such a guilty pleasure.

Lahore

The Magnum Party has been a rather exciting event on the fashion calendar since 2012. If compared to last year’s whacky Surrealist party, this year’s was the more grown up, tamer and sophisticated version of the former. As curious as last year’s party was, in the past five years Magnum has well established itself for the decadence and luxuriousness it stands for. The team managed to up the ante this year, pulling out all the stops from décor to myriad other details to create an event like they should. Even though Magnum’s ‘party’ wasn’t a party as much as it was a fashion show, it was exciting, unique and well executed. There was a lot to love about the night and here are the highlights.

Meesha Shafi’s fashionable musical outing

Meesha Shafi as the muse for Magnum’s party made complete sense. She is a celebrity who brings together the best in the world of fashion and music, which Magnum hopes to do as well. She has a confident and unique sense of style and on the other hand, she has a powerhouse voice. She doesn’t make public appearances often but when she does it always leaves people talking. Her jazz performance of Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’ at the event along with both looks styled with her own unique flair were spectacular!

Nabila’s styling

NPro did the hair and makeup on all the male and female models for the show. There were gorgeous embellished braids on the models along with glitter cat eyes. We like that the NPro team always experiments and takes styling looks a notch further in the international direction. Keeping in mind the fun theme of the night, Nabila’s team managed to create some memorable looks especially on Meesha Shafi!

Zara Peerzada as host

Zara P is one of the most well-spoken, articulate models in the industry. She is far from just another ‘pretty face’ and her glam squad is not the only thing that makes her beautiful - her charming personality has a big part to play. She looked stunning at the chocolate party wearing a shimmery gold Hira Ali dress paired with classic Hollywood hair. What immediately updated the look and gave it a hint of youth, modernity and fun were here glitter lips. They shone bright as diamonds as she hosted the entire night - without breaks as it was being aired live on YouTube.

The designers involved

A few of fashions best were out to play at Magnum’s Chocolate Affair. Of the fashion presentations - Munib Nawaz, who’s known for his menswear, Elan by Khadija Shah who according to many, rules the local fashion scene and Hussain Rehar, the promising newbie who’s taken a solo flight out from under the Shah’s wing, all showed. The House of Kamiar Rokni designed both of Meesha Shafi’s impressive outfits - for her performance and catwalk. Fashions wilder progeny, Ali Xeeshan worked with the chocolatier Joachim on a fashion installation (more on that later). The clothes on display ran the gamut from experimental, statement to sophisticated and elegant and then conventional menswear. Magnum gave designers the opportunity to think beyond mere retail and create statement pieces. Sandwiched between FPW and PLBW, let’s hope the creativity persists in the upcoming show later this week.

The customized magnums and the chocolatier

There was a stall for customized Magnums and then there was Paul Joachim, the chocolatier who’s been dubbed The Chocolate Genius. He’s known to create pieces of art out of chocolate and for the event he’d made a life-size bespoke chocolate dress in collaboration with Ali Xeeshan. There were also chocolates being served in abundance at the party (about which there can really never be any complaints).
