If you enjoyed watching Riz Ahmed play characters in films like Rogue One, you’ll love what he’s involved with next. While nothing has been made official just yet, it appears as though The Night Of star is in talks to join Sony’s Venom, the studio’s first spinoff in a shared universe based on Spider-Man characters.
It is unclear what role he will be playing, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, insiders are saying that it won’t be the role of villainous Carnage, which Sony was originally looking to cast. Carnage was supposed to be the villain and Riz Ahmed was being considered for the role, but the script has changed since then and now he’s reportedly up for a different role.
If things go well for Ahmed, he will be joining Tom Hardy who is starring in Venom in the titular role. In the comic books, Hardy’s character is a photographer named Eddie Brock who, when bonded with an alien symbiote, becomes Venom. He’s been a nemesis of Spider-Man as well as an antihero and protector of the innocent. While Venom is one of Spider-Man’s most popular characters, Sony has made it clear that Venom will play no part in the Spider-Man universe, and that the film will stand on its own.
