We are hardly surprised to see the love Saba Qamar has been getting from both sides of the border for her memorable performance in Hindi Medium. The star instantly received acknowledgement and applause when the film first released in India. Amongst the publications praising her work were, the Times of India, Hindustan Times, Deccan Chronicle and PinkVilla.

However, a recent open letter by another news publication goes beyond just appreciating her work.

“Dear Saba, I must confess that I have not seen any of your dramas but after watching Hindi Medium I shall surely catch up your shows on YouTube,” wrote Faridoon Shahryar, a journalist who writes for Bollywood Hungama. “I have rarely laughed during a movie in the recent times the way I did courtesy your delightful emotional blackmailing in Hindi Medium,” he continued.

However, what makes the letter unique is that Shahryar has shed light on how Indians are discouraged from appreciating Pakistani artists. “I have been trying to fix up an interview with you but my efforts are going in vain. In fact it’s a taboo to even talk about Pakistani artistes these days but somehow I don’t mind being called ‘names’ as the idea of equating art with war is bizarre, irrational and ridiculous.”

The letter goes on to pose many questions to Saba Qamar on why she chose to do Hindi Medium, her experience shooting in New Delhi and whether she tried the street food there or not.
