Even Kapoor, who essayed the role of Neerja Bhanot in the film, got a special mention for her performance by the jury at the ceremony. The film tells the story of Neerja Bhanot, a flight attendant who sacrificed her life to save passengers from a terrorist attack on a Pan-Am flight.
Though it was received very well at the box office, the latest news surrounding Neerja suggests that all is not well. Turns out, Neerja Bhanot’s family is not happy with the producers. They plan to take the producers to court for breaking their commitment. According to reports, the producers had promised to share 10 per cent of the box office collection with the Neerja Bhanot Trust and the family which they didn’t fulfill.
“I will not comment on this issue at this stage,” Neerja’s brother Aneesh Bhanot told IANS. “All I can tell you is that we will not tolerate injustice.”
However, sources inform that the family has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court to resolve the issue and a legal notice has been issued to the producers. Time will tell if they get justice but here’s hoping Sonam Kapoor and family do the right thing.
