Brit-Pakistani actor and rapper Riz Ahmed, who is one of the members of the music group, Sweet Shop Boys, is in no mood to slow down - after having a terrific last year. His performance in HBO’s The Night Of landed him a Golden Globe acting nod while roles in Jason Bourne and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have made him a globally recognized actor.  The great news here is that in 2017, he will continue his inspiring run.

He’s landed a guest spot on Lena Dunham’s Girls and predictably enough, has charmed all involved. Girls executive producer Jenni Konner, noting how his character will impact the series, said recently: “Riz is incredible. He’s obviously playing a very different kind of character than The Night Of or Rogue One — a full-on surfer dude who pontificates about the water! He dips in and out of Hannah’s life in an important way.”

Apart from Girls, Ahmed also has a small but significant role to play in Una, a drama starring Rooney Mara. Seen recently at the Women’s March in London, Ahmed is also the star of an upcoming film called City of Tiny Lights. The synopsis is as follows: “Meet Tommy Akhtar (Riz Ahmed), cricket fan, devoted son to an ailing father and deadbeat private eye. He’s got an office above a cab firm, a taste for cigarettes and bourbon, and a finely tuned moral compass that he keeps hidden behind a sharp cynicism. When Tommy walks into his office one morning to find high-class prostitute Melody seeking his help, he’s launched into a story that plays as an utterly original modern noir.”

Directed by Pete Travis, the film also stars Billie Piper and though it picked up mixed reviews upon appearing at film festivals last year, its Ahmed’s performance in the movie that has impressed a slew of critics. Watch out for the film, it comes out this April.
