No security for Pakistan’s Angel Eyes

Taher Shah, remember him? The internet sensation who amassed online following post his hit songs ‘Eye to Eye’ and ‘Angel’. Well, he’s left Pakistan, heartbroken, after receiving anonymous death threats. “Mr Shah was left heartbroken when the government failed to provide him security and as a result of which he decided to leave Pakistan,” the statement said. “Even I don’t know where he has gone to but he has left Pakistan for sure,” said Taher Shah’s manager.

This got us thinking. Who’d dislike Taher Shah enough to threaten or harm him? His music was bad, but then we’ve heard enough bad music in 2016 to let it slide. He was a bit of a charlatan and attention seeker but then the world has many of those as well. Most of them are now TV anchors or religious evangelists, no less. Then why attack poor, soft spoken and angelic Taher Shah whose only crime to humanity was singing a song in a purple velvet bathrobe.

We feel bad and in a way disappointed in ourselves for having let him down. The good thing is that online sensations can arise and strike from any corner of the world. We may never see him ‘Eye to Eye’ but we will wait for Mankind’s Angel to return with his next song and it will undoubtedly be soul-stirring.
