Moments at the Star Screen 2016 Awards

It’s amazing how the year 2016 isn’t even over and award ceremonies celebrating the best of 2016 have already started. The 23rd Star Screen Awards took place in Mumbai Sunday night and while we understand that we can no longer view Indian films in cinemas in Pakistan and yes, most of us are harboring distaste and resentment over the current situation, we also have to admit that the Bollywood fixation continues, albeit a more secretive and pirated type.

We were curious to know what transpired at the awards, the highs and lows and of course, the red carpet. It was good to know that the gown-obsession isn’t just a Pakistani thing and the red carpet in Mumbai also boasted one ostentatious gown after the other.

Alia Bhatt, we can safely say, let us down with her Sachin and Babi floral dress, which she decided to wear with black leggings. The outfit did her no justice though this was her night as she picked up the Best Actress trophy for Udta Punjab.

 Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone, who won the Style Icon 2016 award of the night, walked in wearing this black Gauri and Nainika design which kind of confused us. Deepika looked beautiful with her dark eyes and pale lip look, but we found the florette a bit too overwhelming and the slash across the front a bit unnecessary.

 Rekha

Rekha picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award (seen here with Sonam Kapoor) and even danced to ‘Pardesiya’ and of course, cameras zoomed into Amitabh Bachchan when she did. We guess the Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha flame will never go out.

Sonam

Talk about losing and one has to mention Sonam Kapoor and how we were convinced that she would pick up the Best Actress Award for Neerja. Anyway, Sonam not only looked great in a Victorian Stephane Rolland gown but she also got to dedicate a performance to Rekha.

Shah Rukh and Salman Khan

One highlight of the show must have been the segment hosted by Shah Rukh and Salman Khan and it is reported to have been a riot, the two do not look at ease here at all. They could have tried to put on a smile for the cameras, don’t you think. Goes without saying that while everyone knew Amitabh Bachchan would lift the Best Actor trophy for Pink, Shah Rukh (Fan) and Salman (Sultan) were in the running and it never feels good to lose.
