Four big names in Pakistan’s music and entertainment scene – Strings, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan and Meesha Shafi – shared the stage at a Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital Gala organized in Dubai to raise funds for SKMH Karachi. It was a star-studded affair indeed, with the ladies looking their starry part in couture styles from The House of Kamiar Rokni (Mahira Khan) and Elan by Khadijah Shah (Meesha Shafi). Hamza, as expected, stuck to desi and toned down attire (he paired his favourite kurta with trousers) while Strings were their usual, casual self.

The purpose of the evening, of course, was to raise funds for Imran Khan’s cancer hospital and with Hamza and Mahira hosting it proved to be as easy as ABC. Mahira shared an anecdote on how she volunteered to be part of the initiative and had approached Imran Khan five years ago; she wanted to help in any way possible.

The gala was high on entertainment, the highlight of which were Strings, who enthralled the audience with their live performance; even Hamza and Mahira stayed on to enjoy their concert. Faisal invited Mahira on stage when they sang ‘Duur’ while they asked Hamza to accompany them when they performed the very inspirational, ‘Mein toh dekhoonga’. People enjoying the event were a bit apprehensive at first but once Mahira pledged DHS 18,000 for the Karachi hospital, donations started flowing in. Meesha performed after Strings and her high octane performance didn’t allow the energy to drop even once.

We love the fact that our celebrities are just as involved in philanthropic projects as they are in their own careers, but having said that, can Strings please come and perform in Pakistan now?
