There couldn’t have been a better way to rekindle patriotic fervour amongst our nation; a better tribute to 69 years of struggle and existence and a better reminder of Amjad Sabri’s vocal prowess.

There couldn’t have been a better way to rekindle patriotic fervour amongst our nation; a better tribute to 69 years of struggle and existence and a better reminder of Amjad Sabri’s vocal prowess. A reiteration of Naseem Begum’s famous milli naghma, post the 1965 Indo-Pak war, Coke Studio’s version of ‘Aye Rahe Haq Ke Shaheedo’ is an emotional retreat for the both the old and new generation, just in time for Independence Day.

The song that features the entire line-up from the upcoming Season 9 of Coke Studio has one excitedly looking forward to the collaboration of big names like Naseebo Lal, Abida Parveen, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Javed Bashir. But it’s the little glimpse of the Late Amjad Sabri and his soul-stirring vocals that makes it all the more special. There is little need for any comparisons with the original, for the song does complete justice to the upcoming festivities when people of all ages, and all walks of life, unite to celebrate the spirit of freedom, or better yet, the spirit of survival. It’s not easy being a Pakistan, elsewhere or within Pakistan, given the state of affairs, but for this one day, there is no other place you’d want to be.

Coke Studio’s choice of song and its approach captures this essence perfectly and leaves one in tears. This Independence Day, it’s all you want to hear and on repeat.
