The Good Wife ended this weekend, with one of the most disappointing finales ever. Viewers and fans passionately embroiled in the ups and downs of Alicia Florrick’s marriage, motherhood, career and affairs were left, quite literally with a slap on the face. It’s been brought up that the series began (in 2009) with Alicia Florrick planting a tight slap on her husband Peter Florrick’s face and it came full circle with Alicia being slapped by her colleague and mentor Diane Lockhart but the audience, we guess, suffered this conclusion the most. As Alicia walks down an empty corridor we are left to believe that her future holds the end of her marriage and affair, the end of her confused relationship with her children but the possibility of a new career as she’s being drawn in to replace Peter Florrick. Is she being projected as the new Peter Florrick, slap and all?

The end of The Good Wife was inconclusive and unfortunately as unsatisfying as a ‘crappy divorce’ after a passionate affair. No one was expecting a fairy tale ending as Alicia Florrick’s character was furthest from being a damsel in distress as can be – she was refreshingly tainted – but this finale let viewers down in its abruptness and senselessness. “A good ending memorably seals the deal,” critic Lorraine Devon Wilke wrote on the finale. “A bad one just... well, it just ends things.”
