Charles reads line from famous play during first public address as King

King Charles III concluded his first public address as the monarch with a line from Shakespeare’s famous play Hamlet.

The nation was left teary-eyed as Charles paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mother after her death at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

In his address, the new King said: “Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother."

"That promise of lifelong service I renew today," he continued.

At the end of his speech, King Charles III also quoted Shakespeare's Hamlet: “May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Meanwhile, an Accession Council took place today on Saturday at St James’s Palace in London.
