KABUL: Taliban leader Mullah Omar on Wednesday said it was "legitimate" to carry out talks aimed at bringing peace to Afghanistan, though he did not specifically mention last week´s meetings with government representatives in Pakistan.
The reclusive leader said the purpose of talks was to "bring and end to the occupation" of Afghanistan, in his annual message on the eve of Eid.
Representatives of the Afghan government and Taliban met in Pakistan last week to hold talks aimed at ending the 13-year insurgency in Afghanistan.
According to the few details released of the meeting, the participants exchanged views on ways and means to bring peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. It was also agreed that talks would continue to create an environment conducive for the peace and reconciliation process.
