Chinese gearing up for 34th Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin
The 34th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is scheduled to take place on 5th January 2018. The theme of this year’s festival is “Harbin Glory, Ice snow in Northern China”.
The festival will be opened amidst fireworks display, series of theatrical plays and snow activities in different venues in the city of Harbin.
The festival offers several themes in different zones. The biggest attraction is the Harbin Ice and Snow World where ice sculptures come to life and cover more than 750,000 sq meters of area.
The festival is being organized since 1985 and is the largest international ice show, attracting ice sculptors from across the globe who take part in the yearly festival.
The most interesting part of the festival is that the ice for the festival is supplied from Harbin’s Songhua River. At night, the views are most spectacular as the ice sculptures are lighted up with LED lights.
Harbin is China’s coldest city where daytime temperatures range from minus 13 to minus 24 Celsius. The good part is that the sculptures stay put till late February when the temperatures slack a bit.
