KARACHI: The Episode 2 of Coke Studio’s season 10 on Friday launched its rendition of old time favorite song ‘Sayonee’, however, the fans showed their outrage and version was trolled on the Twitter.
Sayonee is a song by the Pakistani sufi rock band Junoon, released in April, 1997. It was the first track from the band's fourth album, Azadi (1997). Written by lead guitarist and founder of the band Salman Ahmad and writer Sabir Zafar, it is the lead single on the album.
The unexpected success of "Sayonee" in 1997 propelled Azadi at the local and international music charts, within three months of the release of Azadi, the album had sold over half a million copies and hit platinum sales status in a record of four weeks.
To this day, it is considered one of the best sufi rock songs ever recorded. The song is one of the most well known and popular track by Junoon, also listeners and critics have continued to praise "Sayonee" as one of the greatest rock songs of all time in Pakistani music industry.
This year Sayonee marks the debut of Salman Ahmad as a music director and featured artist on Coke Studio season 10. Having so much attachment to this song, listeners had high of expectations with the Coke Studio season versions.
But with great power comes great responsibilities and the viewers are bashing Salman Ahmed, the originator of the song, for not doing justice to his song.
Salman Ahmed directed this debut song with the symbolic Sufi rock sound. The resonant depth of Ali Noor’s voice juxtaposed with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s classically-nurtured, incredible range makes for a behemoth line-up that is speckled with nostalgia.
Since the launch of the new Sayonee, fans are commenting on social media in a rage and still going back to the previous version.
Many fans also believe that the panel of singers was wrongly selected and Salman Ahmed should have selected Ali Azmat to do justice to his song. The all time anthem of junoon and the debut of Salman Ahmed was lead to distress.
Only good thing about Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Sayonee is that no one will criticize Momina Mustehsan's singing this year.#CokeStudio10

Salman Ahmad should stop ruining Junoon's legacy, its so disappointing for the fans.

Coke Studio has ruined Sayonee. A song so close to my heart. I'll never forgive them for this. Hurts so much.
