NEW DELHI: India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has issued summons to famous Islamic preacher Zakir Naik asking him to appear on March 30 in a case filed against him under an anti-terrorism law, accruing to local media.
It was the second notice issued to Naik after he failed to appear on March 14.
The51-year old scholar is believed to be currently residing in Saudi Arabia to evade arrest over accusations that he had inspired suspects involved in a attack in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.
In the FIR, the NIA alleged that Naik incited Muslim youths to commit unlawful and terrorist acts, officials said.
Zakir and his associates were listed in an FIR last year in November. But Naik has rejected allegations of his involvement in terrorism-related activities.
Indian government had declared Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), an NGO run by Zakir Naik , an unlawful organization under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
