London: Muslim-owned restaurant wins hearts for selfless gesture
LONDON: A Muslim-owned restaurant in London is offering free meals to the elderly and the homeless on Christmas day. The warm gesture has won the hearts and minds of people, Christians in particular, on social media.
Shish Restaurant is willing to provide a three course meal, free of charge, to the elderly and homeless people on Dec. 25 so that 'no one eats alone'. The restaurant is asking locals to spread the word about the initiative and is putting up posters with the words 'We are here to sit with you' on December 25.
So what would be on the menu on Christmas day, which the elderly and the homeless will savour at the Shish Restaurant? Soup and Cacik as a starter, a choice of chicken casserole, vegetable casserole or a chicken shish as a main dish, and rice pudding for dessert.
Needless to say, the restaurant has been praised on social media for its warm gesture.

Suzannah Harris added: “What a lovely gesture; a restaurant that gives something back instead of merely seeing Xmas as a time to cash in. Will definitely visit in the new year if ever in the area.”
Linda Leach wrote: “There is still kindness in this world. Amazing people."
Vicky Lanfear wrote on Facebook: “This is the most selfless gesture I have ever seen and they should be recognised as a pillar of the community.”
