WASHINGTON/TORONTO: As billionaire and business tycoon Donald Trump got elected as the 45th President of the United States of America on Wednesday, the official website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada stopped working, as thousands looked to emigrate to the northern country.
Donald Trump seemed to have inspired a lot of dear, anxiety and tension owing to his strict immigration policies and rigid stance on welcoming Syrian refugees. On Wednesday, as it became apparent to all that he had secured more than the required 270 electorates to become the President-elect of USA, the official Canadian immigration website crashed as too many people looked to migrate to Canada, following Trump's win.
Officials confirmed that the crash had occurred due to immense traffic. This could be due to the fact that a large number of American citizens, Muslims and other communities who feared Trump, could have been weighing the option of moving to Canada as the billionaire defeated Hillary Clinton to become America's 45th President.
Canada, under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has been keen on welcoming refugees especially who are fleeing from the war in Syria. For this very matter, Canada has also been praised immensely by the international community.
