SHARJAH: Pakistan defeated West Indies by a big margin of 111 runs in the first of the three One-day Internationals here at the Sharjah Cricket stadium on Friday.
They lead the ODI series 1-0 as the second match will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
Chasing a huge target of 287 runs, the West Indies batsmen could not resist against Pakistani bowlers and were bowled out for 175 in 38.4 overs.
Left-arm slow bowler Mohammad Nawaz captured four wickets for 42 and right-arm fast-medium bowler Hasan Ali bagged three for 14.
For the West Indies, Marlon Samuels top scored with 42 whereas no other batsman could make more than 23.
As far as the batting was concerned, Babar Azam came to Pakistan's rescue when he scored an invaluable century to enable Pakistan to put a respectable total on the board. Sharjeel Khan also contributed with a half-century, when he made 54 runs from 43 balls. T20 skipper Sarfraz Ahmed made 35 runs from 45 balls as Imad Wasim also chipped in with 24 runs.
