Kyler Murray injury: Vikings quarterback ruled out after frightening hit against Packers

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray’s highly anticipated debut ended abruptly Sunday after he suffered a concussion against the Green Bay Packers.

Murray was injured during the first quarter after scrambling for one yard. He took a hit from Packers safety Javon Bullard before defensive end Lukas Van Ness pulled off his helmet at the end of the play.

Murray eventually got to his feet after several minutes and walked directly to the Minnesota locker room.

The Vikings initially announced that the 29-year-old was being evaluated for a concussion before quickly ruling him out for the remainder of the game.

Veteran quarterback Carson Wentz replaced Murray and helped Minnesota score its first points with a 38-yard field goal.

Murray signed a one-year contract with the Vikings in March after spending the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals.

J.J. McCarthy, who was the Vikings’ primary starter in 2025, entered Sunday as the emergency third quarterback and could only play if both Murray and Wentz became unavailable.
