Josh Jacobs could face NFL suspension after no contest plea to battery charge
Jacobs was fined $1,000 plus court costs on the battery charge, while a deferred judgment agreement was accepted
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs pleaded no contest Thursday to misdemeanour charges of battery and criminal damage to property in a Wisconsin court.
Jacobs was fined $1,000 plus court costs on the battery charge, while a deferred judgment agreement was accepted for the property damage charge.
A follow-up hearing is scheduled for September 10, 2027.
"I fully understand the seriousness of the situation and I take full responsibility," Jacobs said during the hearing, according to ESPN.
His lawyers said the property damage charge will be dismissed after 12 months if Jacobs completes the agreement, which includes no further criminal acts, no contact with the victim, supervision, counselling and restitution.
The charges stem from a May 23 incident involving a woman at Jacobs’ home near Green Bay.
According to the criminal complaint cited by ESPN, surveillance video shows the woman trying to leave Jacobs’ garage when he "grabbed her and threw her to the ground and she struck her head, suffering an injury".
The NFL placed Jacobs on the commissioner exempt list after charges were filed August 27.
Following his plea, Jacobs could be removed from the list and face a suspension. The standard NFL suspension for domestic violence cases under the collective bargaining agreement is six games.
