Fourteen people were hospitalised during and after a Chainsmokers concert in San Jose, California, on Friday night.

The outdoor show took place at Discovery Meadow, with fire officials responding around 8:22 p.m. after receiving reports that multiple people needed medical attention.

Police and the San Jose Fire Department said additional support was quickly called in, including an ambulance task force, two extra advanced life support fire units, and a battalion chief to help manage the situation. In total, 14 ambulances responded to the scene.

It's not yet clear exactly what caused the hospitalisations, though ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported that some attendees appeared to be dealing with issues related to alcohol or drug use at the venue.

The Chainsmokers began their set around 5 p.m., with the group reportedly taking the stage sometime early Saturday morning, according to social media posts from fans at the show.
