Susan Sarandon believes 'Hollywood' is punishing her for her political views
Susan Sarandon, however, says her latest film's director did not bow down to pressure
Susan Sarandon has an illustrious career, with Academy Awards, Emmys, SAG-AFTRA, and whatnot, which probably spans over five decades.
Yet, according to her, she has not been getting many film roles lately.
Her political views, Sarandon said at the Venice Film Festival, were the reason movies had been taken away from her.
The last few years of conflict, particularly in the Middle East, have had far-reaching consequences for virtually every walk of life.
Here, enter Sarandon.
The actress said this was due to publicly voicing her views, particularly since 2023.
“I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still,” she said at a press conference.
“But that’s the power structure. I think within the people, certainly internationally, I feel welcome.”
Now, in The Echo Chamber, a similar situation could happen, but Sarandon said the film's director, Andrea Pallarò, dug his heels in.
“I thank Andrea for that, because he doesn’t listen to the warnings,” she stated.
“There has been a change in terms of the general public," she said, adding, “But I found my family, I found my people, and I’m OK.”
The Echo Chamber in theatres on September 10.
