For Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton was not only her mentor but more than that. She was her godmother.

The loss of the country musician expectedly hit the Flowers hitmaker hard.

Emotionally, Cyrus penned a post on Instagram and stated, “The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share."

She continued, "Our most sacred moments were private, and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts."

However, Cyrus said she wanted her grief to flow not only through tears but through music, too.

“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong."

"I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis," she added.

Parton had an oversized influence on Cyrus' life.

The singer's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, asked the late musician to be her godmother before she was even born.

The bond became stronger when the Jolene singer starred in Cyrus' hit series Hannah Montana.

Even when the singer became a divisive pop sensation, not a happy-go-lucky Disney star, Parton stayed in her corner and defended her publicly.

With such closeness, Cyrus capped off her post by writing, “I will always love her and want to make her proud."

"My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together, and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things," she concluded.
