'Harry Potter' star Jessie Cave exposes painful on set experience that still haunts her

Harry Potter actress Jessie Cave, who played the role of Lavender Brown, who has a crush on Ron Weasley, revealed that she was fat-shamed on the set of the magical franchise.

The actress, who was 20 when she starred in three Harry Potter films, opened up about the hurtful comments on her weight made by a costume designer and years later the painful memories from her time on the popular movie franchise still haunt her.

She claimed on the RESET the Pod podcast, "The costume designer came up to me, gripped the fat on my hips and said, ‘What is this?’ She gripped it so hard it left me in pain. I just had to say, ‘That's my body.’”

She also recalled being told to change her body before filming a scene in the Great Hall.

"She whispered in my ear, ‘Suck in, suck in.’ I immediately started crying."

Jessie said the tears could be seen in the final movie.

"The camera was behind me at first, but when it reached my face, you can see in the film that I've got tears in my eyes."

When she returned for the final movie two stone heavier, Jessie said she felt ignored.

"I'd gone in as the exciting love interest, then came back two stone heavier and felt like a complete nobody. It was 100% because of my weight."

The actress said these experiences have made her cautious about HBO's upcoming Harry Potter reboot.

"I would not wish that on my kids. I wouldn't want them to face that scrutiny. You're signing them up for a job where there can be a lot of cruelty—it hardens you."
