X launches ‘Original Content Rewards Program’ after ending monetization scheme: Key changes explained

X has ended its creator monetization program and replaced it with a new Original Content Rewards Program in a major shake-up.

The purpose of this change is to replace the old revenue-sharing model to reward those creators who bring original insights, expertise, creativity, reporting and commentary to X.

As a result the earning will be based on qualified impressions generated specifically by a creator’s original content excluding replies. Only impressions from Premium subscribers count towards payout.

Impressions entirely from non-payout and standard users will carry little to no monetary value. As per KuCoin, the rewards are distributed after every two weeks.

X also enforces strict content quality and integrity guidelines. Posts with Community Notes including false and misleading information will disqualify from earning ad revenue.

Transition deadlines and timeline

New users can no longer access the previous revenue-sharing program, closed effective immediately.

Existing participants will keep earning until September 7 and eligible creators can apply starting September 8, 2026.

Rewards under the new program will be distributed every two weeks, with the first payment scheduled for August 28.
