Jameson Taillon joins Blue Jays after trade from Cubs

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired veteran right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the teams announced on Sunday.

The 34-year-old has posted a 5.92 ERA in 15 appearances this year, allowing 25 home runs across 76 innings.

Taillon also missed time earlier in the campaign with a hamstring injury after struggling during spring training.

Despite his recent form, the Blue Jays are adding an experienced starter with a 3.99 career ERA across 10 Major League Baseball seasons.

Taillon is in the final year of the four-year, $68 million contract he signed before the 2023 season.

The trade comes as Toronto prepares for the final stages of the MLB trade deadline, with the club expected to reshape its pitching staff.

Reports have linked pending free agent Kevin Gausman with a possible departure before Monday's deadline, creating a potential need for additional starting depth.
