Why Trump is seeking help from his political opponents
Trump has found himself vulnerable and at the mercy of senators amid continuing harsh criticism
Donald Trump has been compelled to beg his Republican foes for a helping hand as he hastens to secure his former personal lawyer’s nomination as Attorney General.
According to sources, the president considers Republican senators disloyal as they refrain from endorsing Todd Blanche’s nomination in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Tillis, 65 and Cornyn 74, both confirmed the White House’s proactive outreach in interviews on Capitol Hill Monday evening. A White House official speaking to the outlet clarified that the administration continues to have collaborative discussions with the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Trump effectively ended Cornyn’s Senate career when he endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over Cornyn in Texas’ Republican primary, assisting Paxton to defeat him.
Cornyn told Politico, “Those are the issues we’re continuing to discuss with the administration to see whether we can get a modification of the settlement agreement.”
In response to cross-party condemnation over money potentially going to insurgents who assaulted the police on January 6, the Justice Department clarified that the fund would not move forward.
Blanche consented to Tillis’s demand that he meets with Jeffrey Epstein victims last week but later said the meeting only amplified the victims’ discontent.
Nonetheless, reports suggest that Tillis would: “like to understand what if any steps were taken for opening FBI investigations whether it was a request or whether it was an acceptance to do it.”
