Shania Twain finally shares how she got her stage name

Shania Twain has finally revealed how she got her stage name.

The 60-year-old singer recently appeared on CBS Sunday Morning to discuss her upcoming album, where she spilled the truth about her stage name.

“Every song [on this album] is like a chapter in this journey of life from being Eileen to becoming Shania,” she told host Seth Doane.

“And the Shania was a request from the label. So, as I’m getting signed, they asked me to change my last name, which I did not want to change because that was my family name, and I felt that I would be betraying my family and an identity that I was clinging to after my parents died," continued Shania.

The Canadian artist, whose real name is Eileen Regina Edwards, further revealed that she heard the name Shania from “a wardrobe mistress” who was backstage at one of her concerts.

“When I heard her name, I’m thinking, ‘Oo, that’s a good one.’ You know, that’s a pretty name. I like it. I’d never heard it before. It was very unique, and I just presented it to the label and said, ‘What about Shania Twain?’ And they loved it,” Shania shared.

 “I guess it fell into my lap is probably a better way to say it," added the Any Man of Mine hitmaker.

For those unversed, Shania's fifth studio album, Little Miss Twain, is scheduled to be released on July 24.
