Nvidia, Adobe urge Trump administration to lift Anthropic AI restrictions over cybersecurity risks
On Friday, Trump administration ordered Anthropic to suspend the access of Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Major tech giants, including Nvidia and Adobe and cybersecurity leaders have urged President Donald Trump to lift restrictions on Anthropic’s most powerful AI models such as Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5.
According to the tech leaders, such restrictions over cybersecurity fears do not strengthen the guardrails , in fact, the bans could weaken cyber defenses and help hackers stay ahead.
The letter comes after the Trump administration on Friday ordered Anthropic to suspend the access of its Mythos-class most powerful models for any foreign nationals over national security related concerns. The US-based artificial intelligence company just rolled out these models two days prior to restrictions.
According to a letter published on Sunday and signed by over 50 security leaders. The government-imposed restrictions on these AI models are responsible for curbing the cybersecurity industry’s ability to identify and patch software flaws.
As per signatories, the restrictions, instead of providing benefits, will create disadvantages as rogue actors could manipulate equally powerful AI models to advance their malicious agenda.
According to leaders, the timing could be dangerous as China is progressing at breakneck pace in the field of artificial intelligence. In the US, the espionage fears stemming from Chinese-linked hackers have also grown.
The security leaders emphasized that Anthropic’s models do not possess uniquely dangerous capabilities regarding flaw detection or exploit weaponization, indicating that numerous rival models on the market offer highly comparable functionalities.
Even Anthropic dismissed the findings related to “narrow potential jailbreak” as a pretext for suspending access of a commercial model.
"This action has taken the best models away from defenders, created market uncertainty, and risked America's AI leadership without any real risk to justify it," the letter stated.
Anthropic was at odds with the US government on access to its models and their impact on national security.
