'The Princess Diaries' franchise gives fans big update after years of waiting

The Princess Diaries is a hit franchise whose last installment was released in 2004.

But since then, there has been anticipation among the fanbase to have a third installment.

Now, producer Debra Martin Chase said The Princess Diaries 3 is a possibility.

In an interview with People, Chase said, “We are more than hopeful."

She continued, "We are moving in that direction. We've done a lot of groundwork."

Then Chase dropped a bombshell, stating The Princess Diaries 3 would begin shooting this year.

“We had hoped to be shooting this year. So, it's coming. We're intent upon making it happen."

"And we're excited that the people are excited. Every time something happens and we get the thing, it's like, ‘Yay, okay, keep going!'”

This is not the first time a confirmation about The Princess Diaries 3 has been given.

Kathleen Marshall, the daughter of the late director Garry Marshall, who helmed the franchise, said the movie is in the works.

“We're working on Princess Diaries 3,” she previously said, noting she was “excited to be a part of anything” related to the franchise.

Marshall noted, “We're moving it along. I mean, there's just an incredible team in place. So it's coming. It's coming.”
