Daniel Radcliffe has reacted to the news that “Weird Al” Yankovic is working on a new stage musical based on his music.

The 36-year-old actor famously played the comedy singer in the 2022 parody biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Now, after reports confirmed that Yankovic is developing a Broadway-style musical called Dare to Be Stupid, Radcliffe says he would be open to being involved.

“Look, hey, I’m open to all ideas,” Radcliffe told People in a recent interview when asked if he would return for the project.

The Harry Potter alum, who is currently nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Every Brilliant Thing, believes the upcoming musical could be a funny twist on traditional jukebox shows.

“I’m imagining that what it will be is then a parody of jukebox musicals that also functions as a great jukebox musical,” he told the magazine. “I’m imagining that’s what it’s gonna be, and that will be brilliant.”

While he stopped short of confirming whether he would actually appear in the production, Radcliffe made it clear he plans to support the project either way.

“If I’m not in it, I’ll be there opening night for sure,” he added.

Radcliffe’s performance in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story has already earned him an Emmy nomination, while the film itself received eight Emmy nominations overall.

The musical, titled Dare to Be Stupid: The Weird Al Musical, was officially announced in May. It will feature songs from Yankovic’s long-running music career along with a new original story.

The project is being co-written by Yankovic alongside Scott Brown and Anthony King, while Tony-winning director Alex Timbers is attached to direct.

In a statement released after the announcement, Yankovic joked that Broadway had been “severely lacking in Weird Al-based entertainment.”
