Eddie Murphy refuses to give advice to next generation: Here's why
The comedian shared his rare take on giving advice to young people
Eddie Murphy revealed he does not believe in sharing two cents, nor has he ever taken advice.
On the AFI red carpet where he received the Life Achievement honor, the Dreamgirls star declined to give advice to the younger generation, noting that "everybody’s different, everybody’s got a different road or path to walk.”
“I would not give advice. I never ever took advice, and I don’t give advice to young comics. You have to figure it all out on your own, this thing," Eddie told Yong Chavez of ABS-CBN News. "If you’re going to do this. You can’t give advice, because everybody’s different, everybody’s got a different road or path to walk.”
As Eddie Murphy was crowned with the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award after serving for more than five decades in Hollywood, he admitted he was nervous when he kicked off his morning.
“This morning I woke up, I had so much anxiety. I didn’t know what this was gonna be like. Everything is wonderful, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time.”
As the actor is about to turn 65 and soon will become grandpa again, Eddie expressed his gratitude saying, “It just feels like it’s raining blessings on me.”
For those unversed, Murphy rose to fame during his time on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984.
Later, he starred in multiple films, including Dreamgirls, Coming to America, Beverly Hills Cop, The Nutty Professor and Norbit.
The star also lent his voice to animated characters like Mushu in Mulan and Donkey in Shrek.
The AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony was streamed on Netflix on May 31.
