Nancy Guthrie case: Investigators reveal major update on kidnapper’s motive

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos believes that authorities have determined the prime motive behind the kidnapping, though he is withholding details to protect the investigation's integrity. While not 100% certain, the Sheriff strongly believes Nancy Guthrie was specifically targeted rather than being the victim of a random crime.

However, a nationwide search has revealed clues, including DNA evidence and ransom notes, but no suspect has been identified. Nanos refused to provide details on the suspected motive, as he said it could compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The only visual evidence is a single doorbell camera image of a masked man. The sheriff did warn there was absolutely a chance that the unknown suspect who kidnapped Guthrie 41 days ago could strike again.

In this connection, Nanos said in Thursday’s NBC interview, “Don’t think for a minute that because it happened to the Guthrie family, you’re safe.”

Sheriff Nanos warned that the kidnapper could absolutely strike again, telling residents of the Catalina Foothills neighborhood not to assume they are safe just because they aren't the Guthrie's. Savannah Guthrie has posted multiple videos on social media making direct appeals to her mother’s suspect, offering a $1 million reward for information that leads to her return.

A 41-day nationwide search has uncovered DNA evidence and ransom notes, although these have not led to an arrest of the actual kidnapper. 

Several individuals have been detained but cleared of the kidnapping itself, including, a delivery man and a California man charged with sending fake ransom notes. Savannah Guthrie has offered a $1 million reward and made emotional social media appeals directly to the captor, expressing fears that her mother may already be gone.
