New Jersey cop allegedly attacks ex-boyfriend detective after break up
The New Jersey officer pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced on Friday
A former Toms River police officer is facing a civil lawsuit over an alleged coordinated attack on her ex-boyfriend at his home in New Jersey.
Anthony Chiarello, a detective with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and his partner, Brianna Grochowski filed the lawsuit on 9 January against Rebecca Sayegh, Patch reports.
On 25 April, Sayegh allegedly smashed the front door of Chiarello’s home and physically attacked both him and Grochowski. She pleaded guilty to the assault and is due to be sentenced on Friday.
The lawsuit claims Sayegh enlisted the help of former officers Berkeley Township officer Kyle Huhn and Toms River dispatcher Joseph Lord, both no longer employed by their departments.
The complaint also names the Berkeley Township and Toms River police departments, as well as the municipality of Berkeley Township.
According to the lawsuit, Sayegh had harassed Chiarello with threatening texts two weeks before the attack after learning he had moved on following their breakup two years earlier.
While awaiting trial, she was released to an in-patient mental health facility but allegedly returned early and was spotted at local bars in violating her release conditions, Chiarello claims.
Chiarello said he feared for his safety while Sayegh remained free, particularly because Huhn continued patrolling his neighborhood during the ongoing investigation.
Both Chiarello and Grochowski claim the incident has affected their careers. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
