Matt Damon shares his most meaningful advice as a girl dad
Matt Damon gets real about raising four daughters in advice to Jason Kelce
Matt Damon reflected on fatherhood during a recent appearance on New Heights, the podcast hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce.
At one point, the conversation shifted to raising daughters and how quickly those years pass, at which, Travis Kelce asked Damon what advice he would give his elder brother Jason Kelce as a fellow “girl dad” of four.
Initially, Damon, 55, downplayed the idea of offering guidance, saying every child is different and that parents are already learning in real time.
He then added that while nurture matters, he has come to believe children largely arrive with their own personalities already formed.
The actor ultimately shared one piece of advice that stayed with him after a friend once gave it to him when his daughter was a toddler: don’t blink.
To elaborate, Damon recalled a recent moment with his 17-year-old daughter, Gia, who asked him to brush her hair while getting ready for school after breaking her collarbone. He realised it had been nearly a decade since he had last done something so routine—a reminder of how gradually those moments disappear without notice.
Damon told Jason that the early years, when parents are still helping their children get ready each day, pass quietly but fast. His message was to pay attention, because one day, without warning, that stage is over.
