Ella Purnell explains why 'Fallout' is different from 'The Last of Us'
Ella Purnell received much praise for her performance in 'Fallout' as she explains a key difference from her show with 'The Last of Us'
Fallout, a Prime Video series inspired by the video game of the same name, has become an instant hit on the streamer. Similarly, there was another video game series, The Last of Us, which HBO recently adapted.
Similar to the latest show, it was a hit too. But Ella Purnell, who stars as Lucy MacLean in the post-apocalyptic series, explains a key difference from the zombie drama.
“I think the creators [Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet] probably feel that [pressure] much more than the actors, especially because our characters aren't from the game. It's not like The Last of Us, where it’s almost frame by frame. We had a little bit more autonomy and creative license,” she tells Cosmopolitan.
Lucy, meanwhile, admits she had not played the game before signing up for the show but notes she liked her character when she read the script.
“The way they described her was with a little bit of a comedy edge, like somebody who would star in a toothpaste commercial but could also kill you. And I was like, ‘oh, that sounds right up my street’,” the actress says.
Nevertheless, Fallout is renewed for season three. “I'm excited for season three,” Lucy says, adding her speculation for her character, “What does she do next? Who is she going to be? Is she going to go back to the Vault? Is she going to lead a revolution? Is she going to get shot?
"Is she going to survive? Is she going to just shack up somewhere in the Wasteland and cut hair for a living? I don't know. I don't know what they've got in store, but I do know that with all she's seen, all she's learned, she will not be the same Lucy.”
Fallout season two will drop on Prime Video on Dec 16.
