Robert De Niro's daughter Drena recalls chilling shift before son’s fatal overdose
Drena De Niro opens up on son’s death
Robert De Niro's daughter, Drena called out "the internet" as a possible part in her son's tragic passing two years earlier.
In a recent interview with PageSix, the devastated mom reflected on the loss of 19-year-old son Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, who was found lifeless by a friend inside a New York City apartment on July 2, 2023.
The teenager's death was ruled out as an accidental overdose of illicit drugs, including ketamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and bromazolam.
Recently, in October, five suspects were arrested in Leandro's drug overdose case.
Drena now opened up about her son's death and told the outlet that TikTok played a role.
"There was a change in him that was so fast," she recalled, noting that Leandro "liked to smoke weed, liked to party and have a good time but he got messed up so fast that I knew something wasn't right here, and I knew it had something to do with what he was doing on the internet."
She revealed that Leandro once went to a rehab, but she recalled "it did a terrible disservice to him."
"That was very sad to me because he wanted help," she noted.
"He knew he was over his head. I don't think he even knew why. I think he had been exposed to much harder drugs that he didn't know about," Drena added.
Drena further added that she and her son Leandro, were "extremely close", as she gushed over him, calling him an "amazing kid" and very "smart."
