Heather Tom adresses 'sexual assault' plotline in 'The Bold and the Beautiful'

The Bold and the Beautiful has once again sparked controversy with a new storyline.

In the new plot, Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada), who’s obsessed with Will Spencer (Crew Morrow) has sex with him pretending to be his girlfriend while he’s drunk. She then gets pregnant with his baby.

Fans aren’t happy with how the show has failed to dub the incident as rape or sexual assault.

Heather Tom, who plays Will’s mom Katie Logan, and also writes and directs on the show, has shared her stance on the matter, telling People, "To be honest, if it were my son, I would view what happened as an issue of consent and that there wasn't much consent happening in that instance. And so yeah, I would view it as a sexual assault."

The actress who shares sons Zane with husband James Achor.continued, "I think that the terminology is what they've chosen to use, and I think that people can, characters can defend that or not. Katie does get to where she does definitely think that her son was assaulted. She definitely uses that terminology. She definitely didn’t necessarily start off there."

"But I think that for me personally, as a person, as a woman, as a mother, consent is very important to me," she said. “I have talked about consent with my son from the very beginning."

"It's something that me, growing up, it was not necessarily at the forefront of how we were raised and how society saw it and how people spoke about things," Heather Tom said. "But for me it is very important . . . I use this terminology with my child, and I think that it definitely is not a gender-conditional thing."
